King of Kings,
In expectation of your coming, we remember the origins of nations and their end. The powers that exercise authority over us, the world (the rule of other men), the flesh (the very desires of our hearts), and the devil (and all the spirits ruled by the prince and power of the air) are bent against you. Two warring nations were conceived in Rebekah, and we confess our own double-minded confusion. We conceive and expect the fulfillment of your promise, but we also conceive and expect to fulfill and inflict our desires upon the world around us.
Yet will not our sin, when it is birthed, bring forth death? Help us to see the madness of the beasts we create in establishing our own kingdom and our own will. Light up our eyes, lest we sleep the sleep of death. Vindicate us when the world, led by the flesh and the devil, gloats over us. Let us shake not for them, nor rejoice in the works of our hands but rejoice in your salvation.
You, Lord, deal bountifully with us. Let us sing your song.
