Lord and Redeemer,
How holy blood is to you. You say life is in the blood, innocent Abel’s blood cried out to you from the ground, and even taking the life of animals which might be offered to you in atonement could make one bloodguilty to you. You made atonement by the life that was in the blood.
In Jesus Christ, you have put the very life of God in human flesh and blood. His is the greatest sacrifice, full atonement, eternal and infinite life by the blood of the Son of God. Yet do we want him? Do we want to always be offering our own atonements, year after year, like Pharisees and sadducees enjoying your provision for sin to the point of not seeking repentance? Oh that salvation would come from Zion, oh that we would truly have no need constant reconciliation. Lamb of God, take away our sins, and help us to wait in readiness for you.
