Epiphany 33

Lord and God,

When we thirst you provide for us. You bear with our impatience and our complaints. You minister to us through others you choose through which to work your merciful will. Yet if we are not those complaining against you, perhaps we are those thinking ourselves above the others, wondering not how we can delight in your will but how we can establish our superiority. Who is the greatest? we ask with the disciples. Your children who love you are the greatest, and the minds of your leaders should be on their responsibility to lead them not their own glory.

Let your glory be sought. You are the father to the fatherless, the protector of widows; you went out before your people, bringing forth water in abundance. Blessed be the Lord who daily bears us up. God is our salvation.
