Epiphany 45

Lord and God,

To you who promised everlasting covenant love, to you who toppled nations and defended his treasured possession, to you who takes away both sickness and sin be the kingdom, power, and glory forever.

What was the dream of Israel, but that we would be your everlasting people? And our dream seemed to vanish before it ever dawned, through our sin and idolatry. We followed not you but fell in love with others we called god. We failed our mission of judging the nations as today we fail our mission of reconciling them to you in Christ. We have allied ourselves with the spiritual enemy; we love what you hate. Who can forgive sins but you alone? Restore us, O Lord God of Hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved. And you will answer the enemy to his face. In your power, rid of us sin and evil. Say, rise again.
