Lord and God,
You reign. You who have put on strength, established the earth, who reign from everlasting to everlasting, you reign. Sometimes, we struggle to see your glory from our vantage. In time, in space, in the frailty of our humanity and sinfulness, we miss your divine purposes. Like Moses, we look upon our inheritance from afar all our lives. We hear of Christ the king, but we watch on as Christ the lowly is betrayed, condemned, killed, and buried.
Let us not be those who laugh at, mock, defy, and test you. Let us see more than a man on the cross: God in the flesh come to ransom us. Let us greet your salvation from afar, knowing the Son of Man who came lowly will come again in glory. Let us not be ashamed of your simplicity and smallness in Christ crucified. He who showed himself mightier than the waves of the sea surely has a purpose in all things. Give us the holiness that befits your house, for you have surely taken us in.
