Lord and God,
You are the comfort of the comfortless. You, the Father of the fatherless, worked redemption through Boaz and Naomi, to give us David. You, the virgin-born, comforted the daughters of Jerusalem, telling them to weep not for you, working redemption by your life and blood for us all.
When you say they will call the barren blessed, do you mean it because of the darkness and distress that awaits Jerusalem? Yet surely also, you call them blessed as you call those who mourn and hunger and thirst for righteousness blessed, for in the end they will all be satisfied. Let those who console themselves with your murder, who exonerate themselves and blame you, be ashamed. Let us who are ashamed of ourselves and hope in you rejoice. Let our spirits be knit to Christ’s by faith, he whose Spirit is committed to you. The steadfast love of the Lord endures forever.
