Lent 39

Who is able to stand before the LORD, this holy God? And to whom shall he go up away from us? Your veiled presence brought plagues upon your people and the nations alike as sinners. If you should mark iniquity, who could stand? Yet you showed favor and delivered your people time and again.

Your faithfulness comes to us by the word of your promise. Let us cling to it, and not assert our own worthiness today. Many seek your deliverance, your signs and wonders and do not take you at your word. Let us believe in you by the salvation already worked for us and the word which you proclaim. To those who demand your signs, you demand signs; tear down the temple to see it rebuilt. Yet you put us to the test all the while knowing what was in man. You came, Lord Jesus, exactly because you knew we could not stand before you. Now, O Savior, makes us to stand in you before your Father, as only you can. Our hope is in you.
