Easter 7

Lord and God,

When brother ms war against brothers, there can be no victory. Yet how foolish are we when we chase reprisal after reprisal? When will our vengeance be satisfied? We are more vicious than Cain and Lamech.

Yet, God of David, whose heart you moved even to mourn the death of his brother-become-adversary, move in us. Bring to an end the curse of David’s house, through Christ his eternal successor, who commanded us to love as he loved. We have hated not merely one another, but you. Yet you return to us grace, mercy and atonement for our violence. Let us learn to fear you, and find in you one we called enemy who calls us friend. Let us abide in your love.
