Easter 10

Lord and God,

When your servant David desired to build your house and establish your kingdom with great zeal, you surprised him. You said you would build his house, establish his kingdom. Likewise Peter came to you insisting that he would never depart from you, give up his life for you.

You never needed the houses made with human hands nor our fickle loyalty—quickly taken by disaster and circumstance. You came not to be served but to serve, for your kingdom is not of this world. As David and Peter both learned the hard way that it is not their obedience and mighty deeds and works that bring your deliverance, but rather it is the work of your own hand, so now teach us. Jesus Christ, who will not lose one of those given you by your Father, hold us in your hands. Work your will in our lives, and let us be yours forever. For your righteousness is righteous forever, and your promise is well tried. Your servants love you.
