Easter 15

Lord and God,

God of David, who promised an eternal king and heir, renew us in your mercy. Work peace in us, and humble us by your grace, God of Israel. You saved your servant David, but with the terrible price of his son and the war among your people. Your salvation and your curse became mixed in one act.

Yet David the prophet knew there was an eternal heir to be raised from the dead, a greater Absalom, a righteous son who would freely die and rise. Jesus Christ said “my God, my God” so that we would never have to say, “my son, my son.” Him you did not let see corruption, and in him we rise to eternal life with you. He absorbs the curse fully and brings us salvation. He is for peace and puts all war aside. Let lying lips be silenced and all listen to his voice. Let there be peace on earth at his word.
