Easter 19

Lord and God,

You are a merciful and just King. You rule and reign as you see fit. Wisely did David leave to your wrath the punishment of his enemies. So help us now not to avenge blood in times of peace, nor to lash out at those who curse us. Let us rather resign ourselves to your reign forever established.

May our enemies even be changed in heart and become vessels of your mercy. May they see that the Lord God who made heaven and earth is our help, he who has taken away our sins and returned us to himself. Let them long to endure hatred the way we do, and let our hope become theirs. For you will deliver us, whether by justice or mercy. And so we plead your mercy, for your justice is beyond our reach, but your mercy can always find us.
