Lord and God,
The task of Israel was the task of all mankind: to worship and serve you along. You who appointed cymbals and lyres, singers and poets; you are great and greatly to be praised. You are the reason for our spiritual heritage and glorious eternal destiny. What simple and magnificent work!
Yet there is a blasphemous kingdom doing its work in the world. The spiral of sin in men’s hearts spills out into your good creation, laying waste to your people, entangling them in lies, alluring them with idols, and turning us against you. We citizens of your heavenly kingdom have too often wandered into the ways of the beast. Yet you will deliver us from all the places where we are scattered, the cold northern reaches of sin. And you who reigns in heaven will reign on earth; you have promised and it will be so: If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done. You who promised to make us as numerous and bright as the stars and who placed them boundless in the sky are faithful. Collect us back into the kingdom of light.
