OT 8

Lord and God,

Everlasting perfection is with you, along with all justice and holiness. To turn from you is to turn towards evil and death, and to face you is to turn toward goodness and life. How foolishly do we lay hold of idols and exalt the creature above the creator who is forever blessed. Yet more incredible that you yourself can be found when we seek you with all our hearts.

How can man, even seeking with his whole heart, be sufficient for this? How can our vision exhaust the horizon or the stars be within our reach? Is it not even idolatry to think that we may search out he whose ways are past finding out? But only by this do we have access to you: that you have put yourself within our reach. The righteous shall live by faith: but only by faith in he who can sustain us, who helps the fatherless, who shows grace and favor; in Jesus Christ our Lord through whom we have received grace.
