Lord and God,
You do not twist justice, yet there is injustice. Who would either dare to contrive a charge against you? Though many slander and mock, who could possibly withstand you, the Almighty? Though we were in the right, our own mouth would condemn us to indict you.
Let us know not merely a just God, as Job’s friends, but an infinitely just God, as Job. Though our closest friends betray us, you will not forsake us. What we need from you is not your infinite justice alone, but your infinite mercy. Take your rod away from us, and let not dread of you terrify us. Then we would speak without fear of you, for we are not so in ourselves. Restore us and set us in your presence forever.
