OT 45

Lord and God,

The foolish and arrogant trust in this life. They look to the work of their own hands to establish their way. They make themselves safe and call it justice. But your ministers commend themselves to us by their patience in tribulation, need, and distress.

It is the wounds not the glory of the righteous that prove them true. It is the sleeplessness not the security of the godly that is their virtue. As Christ is, so we are: both known and unknown, dying and living, sorrowful and rejoicing, having nothing and possessing all things. The King over all the earth will exalt him, and us in him. So we sing your praises, our Lord God. Our inheritance is coming. It is the King himself. We wait for him.
