Lord and God,
You have put your breath in man, creatures pinched from clay. Let us speak and confess truly. Let us not speak with presumption, to condemn you and justify ourselves, to say in our hearts there is no God or that you are no God. Far be it from us!
Yet keep also the sin of Job’s friends from us: to justify ourselves and condemn others. For truly, they would have found the messenger of Satan in Paul’s flesh and condemned him falsely. To be weak and harassed and cast down is not the same as to be a sinner. Christ Jesus taught us this upon his cross. To bear with suffering and to reconcile the downcast: these are his unique glories. Let us therefore condemn no one, but entrust ourselves to him who trusted you. For the God of Jacob will restore the fortunes of his people. Grant the creatures of your breath understanding. Speak and let us receive your word.
