OT 62

Lord and God,

The mind and heart of man are as a deep well, bottomlessly dark. We desire and have not, and so we take, whatever the cost, whatever the consequence, whatever we want. Hopes deferred have made us sick, awaiting the tree of life, your grace. Yet our quest for fulfilled desire and sweetness of soul has left the well emptier still. To turn from evil, not evil itself, we count as an abomination.

In Christ, teach us to put off, not force, our desires. Teach us to labor honestly and earnestly, for in Him truly are the diligent recompensed. As for our evil desires, let them all be put away. Let all the upright in heart exalt. We have seen the promises reward, Christ our wisdom. There is life and no death for those who die to themselves and find life in him.
